This business fund has been the most respected and coveted business award program for Latina business owners in the United States. The fund was created to recognize the accomplishments of Anna Maria Arias, the late founder and editor of Latina Style Magazine. Her drive and mission to empower Hispanic women is one of the true legacies in the Hispanic community.

Here we are Shawna Baca and Terry Beltran, fellow entrepreneurs. We toured the facility. What a beautiful campus with so much history. We had to visit the campus store and s purchase our Tuck clothing.

After our class sessions, we all had the opportunity of having a consultation. This is the CEO, Martha De La Torre, from El Classficado. An amazing business woman and so down to earth. She was sharing her wisdom.

Our faculty consisted of Professor Leonard Greenhalgh, Martin Davidson, Joseph Hall, Punam Anand Keller and Phillilp C. Stocken. They were all full of energy, passion and interesting... so down to earth and helpful. They really made learning fun...I felt like a sponge...wanting more and more!...

To the right is Carol Fenster, CEO of Baby Abuelita Productions LLC. She created a Spanish doll that is now carried in Wal-mart & Target. It was interesting to hear her story and how she was able to get product into major retail stores.

Standing besides me is Sandra Sedillo McGlothlin, Co-Owner of Empire Roofing, Ltd. She was recognized by the US Hispanic Chamber as Entrepreneur of the year. Another amazing woman that grew her business.

Paula Graves and Kate were so dedicated in making our experience memorable. The food, snacks and deserts were scrumptious. I kept eating therefore had to work out frequently in order to fit in my clothes. Mission was accomplished!...:-)

Advisory Board with Senator Harman

This year, I received an invite from the The California Small Business Association (CSBA) to serve on a Small Business Advisory Council meeting with Senator Tom Harman, representing the 35th district.

The purpose of the meeting was to sit down and discuss the issues that are affecting small business and potential solutions to those issues.

*Regulations and Paperwork*Tax & Budget *Health Care *Technology*Infrastructure *Labor *Workers' Comp Reform

What a powerful jam packed meeting it was! ; Everyone is being challenged.

It is imperative for business owners in being informed on the trends and how it will impact them. Adapting to change is critical for survival and knowing the trends can allow some business owners to redirect their business strategy into opportunities. Not doing anything can lead to the demise of a business. This experience allowed me to see how I can shift some gears and help others while it helps me.

The California Small Business Association is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that makes its mission to provide small business with a meaningful voice in state and federal governments.

Founded as a grassroots outgrowth of the 1980 White House Conference on Small Business, the group advocates on behalf of small businesses at the state and federal level, conducts research on issues and develops policies that benefit small businesses. That work includes supporting small business friendly candidates; communicating information on government programs to members and relevant public policy makers, acting as a liaison between the legislature and members, and helping members grow their businesses.

This is our 2008 meeting with Assemblyman Van Tran.

I'm Back!..

Wow... June 1, 2009!...

This year, time fly so fast. Needless to say, this has been the first time since I started my business that I have been away from blogging so long.

Life is full of surprises and challenges. This year I had many, many, many challenges that allowed me to grow spiritually, emotionally and come out stronger than ever!.. Life can either make you stronger or weaker.

Last year, while I was attending the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce yearly conference in San Francisco, I purchased this little adorable little plaque that read

" I've learned that the Lord didn't do it all in one day and neither can I"

Thank God!..... June is hear and I feel like a new person. I've lost 10 pounds and I'm back in shape. I've lost 2 dress sizes and I feel like I'm in my twenties!... Our home looks beautiful after living the past few months with a major home remodeling. My garden is starting to look lush and green with many beautiful flowers. My children are caring, compassionate and working hard in school. There is no more clutter and I'm ready for another fantastic year.

Life is what we make of it and what we learn from our experience. Never say never and never give up on challenges. The results are amazing.

Thank you to Bryon and Catalina for being my Guardian Angels and giving me the strength to move forward!.... We are now friends for life!..

Merry Christmas - It's Disney Family Time :-)

Merry Christmas!..........

We had the opportunity of making our family treasured memories at Disneyland once again!... Here are my little Angels with Minnie Mouse.

What fun, fun, fun we had. I'm very much a young kid at heart, so I must say I love every second. Once I reach the tender age of 60, 70 and 80 years old , I plan on having the same spark in my eye with happiness and joy as I step into the Happiest PLACE on Earth!

This was our first experience in having it SNOW in Disneyland. It's that cool ? Snow and your not freezing. After seeing the beautiful fire works, we heard some beautiful Christmas music and before you now it there were flakes every where.

Here's my little guy trying to taste the snow....he did not like the taste as you can see.

My two little ones had a talented artist put on Disneyland tattoo's. They were both so proud of their designs. Once the artist sprinkled the work of art the designs came alive while the shimmering powder made them a magical sight to see.

We missed a special session in learning how we could create these tasty beautiful deserts. I'm glad we were given a CD that will allow us to view it at our leisure. From this experience, I thought from now on, we'll start a tradition in making a ginger bread house together.

Here's my little guy with his princess. He must have taken 4 or 5 pictures with her. He was so excited because she told him he was a handsome little guy. He was walking on cloud nine. I'm looking forward to sharing that story with him once he grows up.

Here's another fun stop we like to visit.

Considering we have been going to Disney for many years, it was our first time in attending the Muppet Show at the Californian. It brought back many memories of watching the Muppet's as a child. My favorites were Ms Piggy, the two old men, and the scientist.

Here we are at the Downtown Disney. So, so many beautiful things to see, buy and eat.

Boy when we visit, we forget how time flies and our feet just keep walking, walking, walking.

Disney Halloween

Happy Halloween at Disney!

This has been one of the most demanding years for my business. So many blessings that continue to happen through out this year. Time has been a challenge that is why my email blasts and blog took a slow turn.

July 23 and September 26 are days that had a major impact in my life. Have you ever experienced something negative, the more you read, researched and learned more and more things about that subject you wondered how could this actually be happening. You wish you could just wake up and everything would be ok but the reality is...it's real and what do you do? The implication is that your loved one is affected....

Thanks to Disney and it's creative and innovative imaginaton I was able to enter the Happiest Place on Earth and forget about everything. What a splendid delight, I felt like it was my first time!

We had the most remarkable time of our lives celebrating with the Giant Mickey Mouse Jack-o-Lantern.

Yes, we couldn't get enough with only one day so we made it a two day event. What can I say, I'm a young kid at heart....just like my dear wonderful loving mother.

On Friday, we went to Disney's California Adventure parks with not-so-scary spook-tacular entertainment. I feel like going back... hey why not...it runs through Sunday November, 2.

Here I am, the wicked witchy poo...and here is my cute little witch along with her ninja turtle brother.

Last year I was a bit inhibited, but this year I too had my Trick or Treat Bag ready for yummy candies!
What a blast!...candy, taking , dancing, singing, getting treats, taking pictures with your favorite Disney characters, music playing, going on rides, laughing, joking...just fun, fun, fun.... This is what I needed!

This year there were more of candy tations . Consequently our bags were full very fast in a short time. We had to stop because they were getting heavy and we planned on fun and excitement.

We had reserved seating for this wonderful parade! We were strategically seating right where the parade started!... It just can get any better!...

Having the awesome experience, I had my HP camera ready for lot's of action!... Picture after picture...."I love HP"! HP allows me to share all my wonderful experiences! I love connecting with our relatives nationwide.

Here we are, I'm the only one left with a Halloween outfit... I was dressed as an explorer. We started our day at 1pm and left at 12:30am....yes...this is the latest we've ever stayed there!...

Would we do it again, yes, yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.......

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM..

We still have not experienced the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, perhaps soon.

Before we concluded our night, we eagerly took two rides on the tea cups and spun around, and around. Just as we finished our ride...we ran quickly to the line and there we were ready for more!

When consulting, I share my story with clients about my vision, goals and determination. National Business Fund Awardee - Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund

She was a pioneer as a publisher, businesswoman and champion of entrepreneurship. The fund provides these educational grants to selected Latina business owners from across the country who exemplify those business practices and principles that Anna Maria championed. "

This summer was the busiest summer for my business consequently, I missed the business fund due date. I received an email encouraging me to reapply, since I was a strong candidate last year. Luckily the deadline was extended for another week for everyone, so I updated my profile and quickly gathered 3 letters of recommendations in order to complete the process.

I followed up with my contact on the selection date. I patiently waited, waited....waited and felt a little down because, I did not receive a call. Needless to say I felt a little depressed but turned the situation around and I emailed my contact and "Thanked her for encouraging me to reapply". I decided to take my children to the park so they could run free and I could enjoy natures beauty while getting some exercise.

When we came back, I checked my email and I read Congratulations from Latina Style Magazine!.... Oh, my GOD!..... I was on Cloud 9....floating, floating, floating. What an honor...because this is a national award!... YIPEEEEEEEEE!...

Happily, I shared the good news. My little girl replied, "Mama you always get awards". I told my little girl her mom has spent many, many, many years working devoting time by working with business owners and doing things in the community. I also told both my children "When you do things you enjoy and help others along the way, it's fun and blessings come to you because you do things from your heart". I also mentioned that being active in the community a person can make a positive change that will help some one or some thing . I tickled and chased after them and we laughed!...:-)

We also had to thank my hubby for all the love and support through this journey!...

Back in 2005 , I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Bard during the Latina Style Business Series in Ontario, CA. I shook his hand firmly and I mentioned that I planned on being a recipient of the Anna Maria Arias Business Fund within 3 years.

Through these years, I never missed the business series and loved listening to the speakers such as Maria Marin, Daniel Gutierrez, Maria Contreras-Sweet...etc. plus learning a great deal during the workshops.

This year I attended the business series that was held in Anaheim, CA. I wore my swarovski bookmarks on a necklace chain I custom made that holds various of my products. This always attracts women to me and they always ask "what are those beautiful shinning items". This of course then results to sales and leads. As an entrepreneur, I always creatively promoted my business by thinking out of the box. People always remember me because I'm branding Heaven Sent Jewelry.

My marketing method attracted a high level department store. The representative asked me what they were and she told me she would introduce me to another high level person. Now, I'm thinking BIG!... I learning about the processes needed in dealing with a large retail company. In the future, I plan on becoming a supplier!... "Thanks Latina Style Magazine for creating opportunities I have never experienced before!"

Here I am, dedicating my award to fellow entrepreneurs. "We all need to take chances, risks and go for things in life. I do not wait for things to happen, I make things happen. In the process, I open doors and help others help themselves in all aspects of life! "

The first year I submitted my paper work in consideration for the the Anna Maria Arias Business Fund I over did it. I wanted it to be perfect but I got carried away spending one week on it.

The 2nd year my profile improved. I was encouraged to apply for the SBA Champion, after having some coaching from Sylvia Gutierrez from the Santa Ana SBA; I could see a drastic change in my profile submitted.

This year, I just kept in short, to the point. I ended up getting emotional during my award presentation. The first 3 years were the hardest challenges in my life. I never worked so hard nor did I imagine everything that would result in year 4!.... I will be writing about the many BLESSINGS with in the next few weeks.

Faith, support from my family and determination were essential. Developing strategic alliances with organizations and partnerships was critical. Attending seminars, workshops and asking for help were a must. Not being afraid of learning technology proved in being effective for my business. Last but not least, surrounding myself with positive people with energy to move forward. Dreaming and going for it.... not allowing negative influences hinder my path!....

We also participated in the 5th annual National LATINA Symposium to celebrate Latina achievement in the United States held in Washington, D.C. The purpose was to address the needs of professional Latinas in the U.S,

The Symposium provides a national platform for Latina entrepreneurs and professional working women to address the most pressing issues affecting the Hispanic woman in the United States.

It was so exhilarated in meeting Latina leaders from corporate America, the government and military. The Symposium will featured panels and workshops designed to unite and empower Latinas and included some of the most prominent Latinas in corporate America.

United States Treasurer Ana Cabral, (my client) was the moderator and her distinguished panelists included: Brig. Gen. Angela Salinas of the U.S. Marine Corps, Lourdes Hassler, president of NSHMBA, and Diana Real of State Farm. A second panel titled “Achieving your Potential” and was moderated by Carmen Bauza of Wal-Mart.

The Symposium had the Distinguished Service Awards Luncheon, which LATINA Style co-hosts with the Department of Defense. At the luncheon 14 award recipients, representing each branch of the Armed Forces, will be honored for their excellence in service. The keynote speaker will be Col. Lisa Firmin of the U.S. Air Force. This is the only national awards program specifically for Latinas in the military.

This opportunity is so exciting. We will receive business training at Dartmouth University's Tuck School of Business in 2009! Special Thanks to Latina Style and all the Sponsors, Shell Oil, Wal-Mart, AARP/United Healthcare, Exxon Mobil, HITN, Teleflora and Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

CA Hispanic Chamber Convention

I attended The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce's (CHCC) for its 29th annual State Convention & Expo. The CHCC's convention took place in San Francisco, California on August 13-16, 2008 at the Mark Hopkins Hotel.

Having been involved with the chamber for many, many years I once again volunteered once again. Here we are on Wednesday night assisting with the preparation of the convention. This is Joel Ayala, the President/CEO of the California Hispanic Chamber. His leadership and passion to assist business owners has made a difference in the direction of the chamber! Through the conference, California business owners contribute to the economic well being of our country and setting some trends.

I had the pleasure of listening and meeting Ronald N. Langston, National Director for the Minority Business Development Agency. He gave an outstanding presentation that challenged business owners . I was inspired with his message!

The program had an international component with speakers from Mexico and Canada. The CHCC will be presenting the 1st Annual Presidents Trade Mission to Mexico on May 16 to 20th.

Mexico is California's number one trade partner. The purpose is to learn about trade and investment opportunities in Mexico and share this information to respective members with local chambers.

Jason Sisneros was our motivation presenter. What an incredible story he shared about his childhood...yet challenges did not hold him down. He had people cheering, laughing and energized.

Now this man is an author, and he has given over 3,000 workshops. I recall hearing about his presentation and the crowed loved him and I can see why. His website is http://www.jasonsisneros.com/ .

My wonderful friend Diana Borrel, CEO/President of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber introduced me to her friend, Nick Montoya. Nick is an author of The Magic Megaphone "how to get your projects unstuck and back on track in under 60 minutes"
I introduced him to some of my friends.....some of them had heard his presentation at the NLBWA (National Latina Business Women's Association) in Long Beach. They said they loved him!... I can't wait to read my book.

A few years ago I meet, Michael Barrera, former President and CEO of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC). He is now the Presidente of National Hispanic Business Information Clearinghouse.

He demonstrated this awesome website...wow... sure wish I would have had access to this when I was starting my business. Check out his website at http://www.nhbic.org/. Many organizations can become part of it and assist their membership.

One of my favorite gratifications was attending the ABC Program during the convention.

Established in 2004 in Southern CA, the chamber established a statewide series into a multi-faceted program that provides business owners with practical tools and non-traditional sources of capital for business growth that more traditional insitutions cannot provide.

The ABC Program provides a unique value to Chambers, chamber members, and business owners in general. Here we are celebrating after the program. Richard Sandoval and his son Chris run Hispanic Life Style in Southern CA. They are a family run business. I'm totally impressed with their mission ,their professionalism and the excellent quality of everything they produce.

Since their inception in 1995, they have been recognized by several federal, state and local organizations for promoting positive images of the Latino community.

Here I am connecting with a former high school class mate and his lovely wife. Sergeant Major Daniel J. Morales is now an appointee with our governor of California. What a small world...:-)I also ran into another high school alum, Tim Rios from Wells Fargo. Tim is the the Vice President of Community Development and national spokesperson for the Wells Fargo's Latino Business Services program.

During our networking I meet a young lady that was interested in starting a chapter of NLBWA in Fresno. I followed up with her and Tim....now they are meeting tomorrow . The beauty of networking and sharing resources are incredible!..:-)

When I first started my business, I joined the OC Hispanic Chamber. I recall , Viola gave me such a big welcome hug... I felt like I was part of a family. She not only was my client, along with Diana Ornalez, we became such good friends. Laura Ente works for the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.... She is always so sweet, and funny.

Here is Silvia Ichar and her son Francis Betran, owners of Para Todos magazine. She was recognized as the Woman of the Year by the Chamber. Thier magazine has had such a positive impact in the Latino Community. Since I work as a consultant with (IWE) Institute for Women Entrepreneurs, many readers have heard about our services. Some business owners mentioned that they were ready to close their doors, but once they read about IWE, they decided to hold on.

I had the pleasure of meeting Anna Cabral in San Diego for the NLBWA (National Latina Business Women's Association Luncheon on a cruise ship at the Bahia Resort. Mrs. Cabral was the key note speaker "Latina Entrepreneurs - Raising the Bar".

I've always enjoyed supporting other chapters, so I took my drive to SD and had an exhibit table on the lovely boat that cruised the harbors during lunch. Both Therese and Anna received a beautiful jewelry box from my business. The following day I ran into Anna for the NCLR National Convention, where she purchased one of my traveling visors and "Thanked me for the gift.

As a founding member of the NLBWA in OC, I attended a special event for our chapter. Here are some new board members being sworn in by Lou Carrera.

It was so great to see another dear inspirational friend, Maria Marin. Maria is an international motivational speaker, author and radio talk show host. Here we are catching up for the last two years!

Here I am exhibiting at the NCLR National Convention. To the left is Laura Cano a very talented artist known national, Dr. Nora Comstock , Founder of Las Comadres and my little princess and Sylvia to the right. I didn't have a chance to attend any of the sessions or hear both Presidential Candidates.

Something that I have learned in business, networking and building partnerships are so critical in building a strong solid foundation. It's been a pleasure to be surrounded by lovely talented ladies that pursued their visions and dreams. Beautiful friendships have cultivated and we can rejoice our accomplishments . I'm truly blessed with so much positive energy!...:-)

Our weekend came to a close in San Diego at Filippes, a restaurant that is a trademark in San Diego. My husband mentioned this place so many times. There was a long, long line to eat....to the left is the walk way into the restaurant.

Boy, were my taste buds, screaming with delight with the delicious food!. Now I can see why it's so popular.... "This was some of the best Italian Food...:-)

I had the pleasure of joining this awesome organization and welcoming members as a speaker this past May in Anaheim, CA for AEO (Association for Enterprise Opportunity) . The topic was Building Successful Communities with Small Business.

He brought up key issues...why does the government spend an exuberant amount of money to keep business here and not support small business. Next to him was Bob Trask. Bob is an author, actor and comedian. He is the founder of ARAS Foundation, http://www.arasfoundation.org/ . Then of course me, and my good friend Joel Ayala, CEO/Presidents of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce.

Here I am, sharing my experience as an entrepreneur. Heaven Sent Jewelry was founded in Dec 2003. When I started my journey, I had no retail experience, no business plan but I had GANAS (desire) to make it happen. Through the journey which has been a roll coaster ride, there have been many blessings through the last 4 years.

My philosophy is win-win; when you form partnerships and help one another, the results are awesome. Although I have a masters degree, I needed to educate myself in order to build my business foundation. I took advantage of the services provided by SBA, such as SBDC, SCORE, and joined various business organizations such as the NLBWA (National Latina Business Women's Association, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Las Comadres, ect . Networking with organizations was instrumental and using technology was essential.

Who would have thought that many doors would have opened for me. From serving on national focus groups with large corporations, being on a committee with my local Assembly person, being featured through the media, speaking international/nationally, to now doing consulting work and a future author!...

At times, I feel as though it's surreal. Faith, prayer and support from my loving husband and family has made it possible. I do have big dreams that I'm looking forward to fulfilling with in the next few years.

Here is the lovely and talented Claudia Viek, CEO of CAMEO (California Association for Micro Enterprise Opportunity - http://www.microbiz.org/ during the 2008 Microentrepreneur Marketplace. Although I just meet Claudia, I was so impressed with her dedication, mission and passion for assisting entrepreneurs.

What was really cool is that AEO gave some coupons to some attendees, whom then cashed in their coupons with purchases with entrepreneurs during the market place event. I had so many attendees stop by my both with many well wishes. What a great idea to stimulate sales!...

CAMEO is the largest State Microenterprise Association in the U.S. The conference had Viva! Las Micro Empresas project with various workshops on how to reach and serve Latino business owners. Latino businesses are starting at three times the rate of all business start-ups nationally, and in California, there is an estimate that there will be almost 700,00 Latino entrepreneurs!

I really found this organization remarkable. One of the key speakers was Michelle Long, Executive Director of Sustainable Connections, a membership organization of 600+ NW Washington local, independent business working to transform and model an economy built on sustainable practises. Programs include a wildly successful Think Local First campaign that has altered the purchasing behaviors of 3 in 5 local households, Food Farming, Green Building, Energy, and Sustainable Business Development.

With small business being the heart of our economy, it's makes sense for everyone to support small business owners especially during these economic times. Reinforcing achievement traits-children

"Young Champions Certificate of Achievement"

Here's my two little ones receiving their "Young Champions Certificate of Achievement" with the Degree of Proficiency for the Karate Advanced Yellow Belt along with a star for perfect attendance.

I was so happy for them as they stood with so much pride. My little guy was sad that he did not receive an award for perfect attendance when he received his yellow belt. I hugged him and said there will be another chance and you should be happy for what you have achieved and learn so we celebrated with a burger.

I can see how this class is benefiting both my little angels. Karate has really helped him with his physical coordination. He really listens attentively and behaves like an adult with the instructions. In addition, my little girl confidence is improving. She is now in great shape...with the ability of doing 12 push ups, and she is able to do more jumping jacks than me..... This of course is making me want to get back in tip top shape like I used to me!...:-)

Recently we rented Karate Kid for our children. The lessons taught were great during the video...I discussed them with my children. As we talked about challenges, and being reactive (getting upset) verses being proactive (focused) . Getting upset during challenge times is not productive and will not solve issues.

I recall when I was little, me and my brother would practise every evening with our "Jet Kun Do" a Shaolin kungfu. It assisted me with focusing, and gave me confidence. Yes, ..... Bruce Lee was our Hero!.... When you grow up with 4 brothers, you learn how to fend for yourself. It also made me very competitive which has contributed in my entrepreneurship role.

My little boy just loves talking to his instructor, Alex. My little girl joins in the conversation. My son always request, let's play " Sensa Says "-(Simon's Say's) "Sena - means Japanese teacher" before the class ends. This games really helps him in focusing on the instructions. One day he will be the last one standing while playing Sensa Says. Here they are practising as White Belts .

Here is my little Angel...receiving an award during her school award assembly. I'm so happy to see that my children are learning that in order to get somewhere it takes dedication, work and focus.

Kung Fu Panda-children activities

We had the pleasure of attending a special event in honor of Kung FU Panda in San Diego!... What a blast from meeting the 8 foot Panda, to having face painting, to special fun projects for children, learning the PANDA-MoniUM dance, to playing with the Dream Works Kung Fu Panda game, and having yummy treats in the beautiful La Jolla Tennis location....we were in total ahhhhhhhhh....:-)

Here's my little guy trying Activision game.... Since he is now an advance yellow belt along with his sister, they both felt they could use their knowledge and skills to do well on this game. You should have seen those little fingers going wild!

When my children are practising their karate moves for class, now they grab their new Kung Fun Panda CD & play "Kung Fun Fighting". This has been great for everyone. Since then, I have started getting my work out with them and now I can see the inches slowly going away!...

As we left the fun, we had some goodies in our goody bag. Once we came home, I opened up the HP/Kung Fu Panda activity CD. Here is Maria Baily, one of my top friends! Not only is she the CEO of Blue Suit Mom's, an author of 3 very good books, talk show host and a mom. I love attending all her events....each event is always so creative, fun and exciting. She's always so down to earth...you can see she loves what she does.

While we were in San Diego, we stayed at the beautiful down town San Diego Marriott Marina.
The stay was awesome...I actually felt like I was in Tahiti . The beautiful long pool with so many palm trees, beautiful Caribbean music playing and seeing a movie out in the pool was just what we needed. When we checked in, my children received a little goody bag. The customer service was excellent!...

While we visited all the cool little shops at the marina, we also had a chance to see all these cool classic cars. My little girl spotted Elvis.

I know this summer will be filled with lots of fun with Kung Fu fun. The beauty is that it can all be done at home.

This past Friday, I attended a private screening of "How The Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer" with Doris Benavides. This movie will be released by Maya Cinema on May 16, 2008. Written and directed by Georgina Garcia Riedel. Starring Elizabeth Pena, America Ferrera, and Lucy Gallardo amongst others.

I would encourage everyone to see it. This movie is funny, reflects life experiences and it shows 3 generations of women dealing with day to day challenges. It was also very touching..., this film allows you to enter the lives of the 3 characters and understand by being in their shoes. It reminds me of my child hood growing up in a small town but with out the excitement in the movie..LoL... :-)

The moral to the story is you can't get caught up with what people are saying or will say. Life is about what makes us happy; the people we allow to enter in our lives. Nothing is better than sharing a nuturing companionship and enjoying life to the fullest with no regret.

The director wrote about her own experience with her abuelita/Grandmother. Her grandmother wanted to purchase a car but it did not happen. In this movie, Granny buys a car and it makes a difference to her happiness . I really loved the images at the end of the story...life is meant to be enjoyed and we deserve to be happy.

Bad Economy-meet it head on!

Every day we tune in to the news, we keep hearing about the economy. After a while, we let external things affects us and allow the news to consume us. Speaking from my own experience, I noticed that my on-line sales increased every year. However, this past Christmas was my worst experience with my retail on-lines sales.

I questioned the decrease and thought to myself, it's not me, it's the economy. "I can't do anything, people are just not buying". At expo's I talked to fellow business owners and they too experienced a decline in business. I justified it, by saying, my consulting venture and working on my book took me away from focusing on my business.

A short time after, I thought to myself, I've never worked so hard in my life to build my business and I'm not going to let my business go with out fight. All the sacrifice for the past years were worth the effort. "Thank God" I was blessed with not allowing challenges to hold me down. I bounce up with vigor and determination and ready to charge and make this happen once again!

Does everyone remember this song? "When the Tough Gets Going, the Tough Get Going - by Billy Ocean" . I kept singing this song back to myself. ....:-)

One of my good friends and fellow SBA Champion, Janet Cronick C.E.O. from Ultimate Gifts http://www.ugpromo.com/ and international expert did not allow the negative news to affect her. Her spirit sparked with drive to meet the challenge head on. I'm so lucky to have friends like this... I was influenced by her determination.

I once again reclaimed the eye of the tiger with much drive, passion and energy!... Setting priorities which is God first, Family second and my business. Strategically aligning myself, seeking out opportunities that would result in win-win and while having a purpose at each function.

As a result, amazing things resulted. Things that blew my mind... all these years of branding and positioning my self and my business. Wow.... what can say.... the opportunities are now here. The opportunities will take my business to the next level. In the process, my children are learning each day about business.

As an entrepreneur, nothing happens if we do not make things happen. Nobody will believe in us, if we do not believe in ourselves and our product/service. We need to demonstrate our talents with vigor and passion.

If a challenge is presented, one must evaluate it , research options that are viable and in the process take a new direction. If something isn't working then we need to act immediately. It's called survival....

If we do not think out of the box and take chances, nothing will happen.

As a proud "Stay Home Mom", Award Winning Entrepreneur and future Author , I've never thought of limitations. Limitations hold you down and do not allow you to explore.

HP-Good Resource for Entrepreneurs

This past February, I participated in another focus group arranged by Maria Bailey, Author, Radio Talk Show Host and Founder of Blue Suit Moms http://www.bluesuitmom.com/ . These photo's were from last years big HP (Hewlett-Packard) with managers from all over the US. The computer-printer-digital-equipment manufacturer has been working at reaching out to women entrepreneurs.

Having a focus groups provides essential information to management on the needs from business owners. There were about 10 panelist that gave input about our entrepreneurial needs.

Following our panel discussion, we participated in group for mini-seminars conducted by HP reps. These mini-seminars were so informative and educational. Talk about short, sweet and essential for entrepreneurs. I felt like a kid coming out of a candy store.

I found my first session with Yvonne very interesting. They have a website www.hp.com/go/gowomen that addresses the needs of women business owners. I carry and sell the very well know key finders from Sandy Stein from Alexx Inc that was a featured entrepreneur on HP's website.

Once I came home, I took inventory and did not realize how much HP product we have. I love my HP Photosmart R927 Digital Camera. This is the camera that I use for all my family and business pictures you see on my website, blog, My Space...

Another mini-seminar was on preserving and sharing data. Many of us sometimes take things for granted and never think that we may experience any thing that could keep us out of business. In Katrina over 1,500 business were affected and in San Diego, over 1,000 business owners were wiped out during the fires. Natural disasters account for a small percentage of business data loss compared to, perhaps you may have a disgruntled employee (or spouse) or, your your system may crash and or server! It was nice to see a fellow entrepreneur along side of HP. Did you know that there are 70 million bloggers out there? Anita Campbell, from Small Business Trends ww.smallbiztrends.com/events discussed social media and blogging . I visited her website and was extremely impressed...no wonder she has such a following. Anita also has her on radio show, too, with small business tips.

Another really cool sight was http://www.logoworks.com/ . They demonstrated how a logo changed from mom and pop to having a corporate look. The prices were also affordable for small businesses that puts a team of experienced designers on your project. They can assist with logo design, business cards, stationary, websites, brochures...etc.

The event concluded with an expo and a networking social.

Assembly Tran-CSBA Small Business Advisory Council

This year, I received an invite from the The California Small Business Association (CSBA) to serve on a Small Business Advisory Council meeting with Assembly Member Van Tran. The purpose of the meeting was to sit down and discuss the issues that are affecting small business and potential solutions to those issues.

Some of the topics that were discussed were the following:

Access to Capital

*Regulations and Paperwork
*Tax & Budget
*Health Care
*Technology
*Infrastructure
*Labor
*Workers' Comp Reform

What a powerful jam packed meeting it was! There is currently a 16 billion deficit in CA consequently cutbacks are being felt by everyone, especially small business owners.

Prior to attending the meeting, I emailed and communicated with various of my business contacts. Some folks were business owners, Directors of SBA funded groups such as the Women Business Centers, SBDC, SCORE and Hispanic Chambers.

Everyone is seeing the challenges that business owners are having, from restaurant owners, to collection agencies, business organizations, less revenues coming in, harder to collect funds and memberships dropping.

It is imperative for business owners in being informed on the trends and how it will impact them. Knowing what is occurring and seeing how one can adapt to change is critical for survival. Knowing the trends can allow some business owners to redirect their business strategy into opportunities. Not doing anything can lead to the demise of a business. This experience allowed me to see how I can shift some gears and help others while it helps me.

The California Small Business Association is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that makes its mission to provide small business with a meaningful voice in state and federal governments.

I couldn't believe how surreal the experience was last year in being recognized in Sacramento with various other business owners.

When I had a chance to meet Betty Jo Tococoli, President of the California Small Business Association at our meeting , I was so impressed with her passion and commitment to business owners in CA during the yearly celebration!

CSBA arranges 81 meetings with assembly members through out CA. I was so thrilled to have had the opportunity of meeting her.

Entrepreneur Children learning

As parents, we work hard at being positive role models for our children. We some times wonder whether these little people are listening to what we are saying and are they being influenced in a positive manner.

In February, I was so touched that both of my children would be receiving an award at their school assembly.

When I picked up my son from kindergarten he had a little envelope with a safety pin on his shirt. I asked him what is this? The teacher aid mentioned that James would be receiving an award next week. I was so proud of my little guy...my eye's teared ... I hugged him and we happily walked back home.

My little guy loves life and loves dealing with adults. He's a happy little spirit that enjoys making himself useful and having fun at the same time. He really is a very considerate little guy with a big heart and is a very good communicator. Gosh , when I was a child I was so meek and quite and shy.

Then we took another walk and picked up my little girl. Once we were home, I went through her backpack and opened an enveloped addressed to us. Wow.. it said your child will be receiving an award on February 21st.... I couldn't believe it.

This was a major accomplishment for my little girl. She had problems with math but she learned how to focus, learned how to be patient and did not give up. She would some times break down in tears when she could not comprehend her assignments. I explained that math was not easy for me as a child and that I had to practise, practise, practise until it came to me. It was so good to see how my little girl gained her confidence and how she improved. She also recieved a necklace for reading a certain number of books.

Talk about coincidence..... I was a nominee for the Orange County Business Journal Seventh Annual Excellence in Entrepreneurship Awards "For extraordinary success and contribution to the Orange County Business Community". I showed my certificate to both my children and we talked about what it took in order to receive that recognition. They both hugged me and said "We're proud of you mama"!

Children are like seeds.

They will blossom with love, support and patience.

It's what we teach them, the examples that we set and we explain the process. Having fun is critical and learning how we can improve will help us grow.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lilian at a business expo in September, she attended the SBA Awards where I was recognized at 2007 USA SBA Region IX Business Champion. I was impressed with her from the beginning , before you know it we've become good friends and sharing business insights.

Christmas at Disney!...:-)

I can't think of any better way to bring in the Christmas Season with out coming to Disney Land- "Happiest Place on Earth".

Wow... this year was the first year the line for "It's a Small world After All" was the longest I've ever experienced. In the past, we always went there first.

Although the line was really long, it didn't bother us at all. Seeing the beautiful tower lighten up with beautiful twinkling dazzling colored lights along with the listening to the nice soothing Christmas music made it worth the wait. Every ones spirit of joy was in the air. We had two strangers offer to take family pictures...that was so sweet!

"It's a small world after All".... is still one my favorite rides. My little girl loves it just as much as I do.

Now that my little boy and girl are big enough, we always have to go to AutoTopia and take a car ride. They love receiving the little drivers license and playing with them at home. My little girl kept pushing my foot as she tried to push on the gas pedal so the car could pick up speed. So much excitement.... I had to take a picture of her in action!

After spending most of our time at Disney we always like to end our day visiting the California Theme Park. The drive to Hollywood at Disney is much better here than visiting the real thing! (Don't tell anyone I said so....LoL)

Since so many people know my business... for Heaven Sent Jewelry ( www.heavensentjewelry.com ) - Swarovski Crystal... (Bling, Bling, and some more Bling) I really got a kick of the fire hydrant...it had many, many crystals.

I love all the Christmas decor reflecting Southern CA. I remember when I visited OC during the holiday's, I couldn't get over how beautiful the weather was in comparison to other areas in the nations. Where else would you see a big sand castle with Christmas ornaments.

Here's a picture from the safari boat ride. I can't believe after so many years of visiting Disneyland , we finally went on a ride we had never been before... Crocodile Dundee. It was so much fun!

National Hispanic Business Women's Association (NHBWA) Presentation

I had the opportunity of sharing my entrepreneurial experience with the National Latina Business Women's group.

The topic was Secrets of Successful Women. It was an honor to share my story along with Founder/CEO of Lulu's Dessert Maria Lordes Sobrino. http://www.lulusdessert.com/ Her business has been around for 24 years and she is recognized as one of the fastest growing business!... Maria is an inspiration to many women...she has received numerous awards and media coverage for all her accomplishments.

NHBWA was one of the first groups I joined when I started my business. After being in business for about 6 or 8 weeks I was interviewed by Excelsior Newspaper... about 4 times that year!.. Being involved in critical for any business owner.

Sharing my experience with the group was awesome. Many of the members remember me when I had just started my business and they have experienced my growth. Many of them made comments..." I remember you when..."

My presentation focused on how I used technology to grow my business and how it opened many doors on a local, state, national and international level. Sabia International Presentation

Last year, I had the opportunity of attending my first international women's conference in Spanish. This year I joined SABIA as a guest speaker. My topic was a dual role (as a Business Expert with (IWE) Institute for Women Entrepreneurs and as a business owner of Heaven Sent Jewelry (http://www.heavensentjewelry.com/ ).

I once again talked about technology and demonstrated my You Tube video. The audience was inspired by with many claps and cheers. That was extremely rewarding to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit. In addition, I also touched upon other important aspects of running your business and why a business plan is so critical.

Oh my gosh!....what a blast...it was taking this picture with Sallie Salinas, Director of IWE and Pilar Jacob's a fellow consultant. It reminded me of taking pictures in high school when you just can't take a serious picture because everyone is laughing....we finally did it.

This past year has truly been a Grand Year for my business!.... The many awards and recognition during the last 4 years have opened doors for speaking engagements. Wow... from being invited to speak on a local level, state wide, national to international all in one year!.....

From the outside looking it, it sounds like it happened overnight. It has taken over 24 years of experience, a strong educational background and muchas ganas for all of this too happen. My commitment to my community and serving as a role model while being determined to make it has resulted in the many blessings.

I will be a speaker on behalf of (IWE) Institute of Women Entrepreneurs On October 26-27, 2007 - 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the "Business Women Without Borders 2007 Forum " This workshop will provide women with information on ways to complete globally; to build and maximize their business opportunities; understand the increasing role of technology to expand their business; and how to invest for retirement in Mexico with real estate business and services. Oh YES.... my participation to the Dominican Republic was an exciting. Janet Cronick, a dear friend invited me to join her on her international tour. We spoke to 3 groups, my focus was on how I used technology to grow my business. (see my blog for more details and pictures).

As an entrepreneur, I've learned that one must be bold and creative with a vision. No one else will promote you or your product. Your the captain, that determines if you will sink or swim.... I choose to swim!...

First International Presentation

What an exhilarating thrill to be part of an international presentation with my dear friend Janet. For the last two years she has been invited to speak to various countries about entrepreneurship. I gave 3 presentations about how I have used technology to grow my business. What an incredible experience to meet so many incredible people... I felt like I added an entire dimension to myself.

Santo Domingo is the capital and largest city in the Dominican Republic. The city is located at 18°29′N, 69°55′W in the Caribbean Sea at the mouth of the Ozama River. It is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Americas, and was the first seat of Spanish colonial rule in the New World . In 1930, the city of Santo Domingo was almost completely demolished by a tropical hurricane called San Zenon. Dictator Rafael Trujillo, the incumbent at the time, reconstructed the city and named it Ciudad Trujillo after himself. After his assassination (with CIA involvement) in 1961, Ciudad Trujillo became Santo Domingo de Guzman as today's actual name. Santo Domingo de Guzman is within the boundaries of the Distrito Nacional and the Santo Domingo Province sorrounds it. In 2001 a law was approved making Santo Domingo de Guzmán(The City & D.N) less than 200 km² in size, making it the smallest administrative division in the country.

What a beautiful city full of vitality, spirit and so much history. I was amazed to learn that Santo Domingo was the oldest European City in the world. The church we visited was the 1st Catholic Cathedral in America. How cool to learn that Ponce De Leon, Hernando Cortes, and Christopher Columbus had all started their journey in Santo Domingo.

While we were touring Santo Domingo, our guide informed us that several locations in Santo Domingo were used while Scare Face with Al Pacino was being created. As we toured, we were welcomed with pouring rain. We made the best out of it and purchased goodies for family and friends.

During two presentations, I was surprised to hear from two of the attendees. They had actually visited my website.... I found it extremely rewarding in the response I received from the crowd after my presentations.

Janet did an outstanding job while talking to over 150 participants representing different parts of the Dominican Republic. She had the crowd eager to participate in her presentation.

Now we have picture of our Diplomate, Rex Moser, Agregado Cultural Embajada de Los Estados Unidos de American en Santo Domingo. What an interesting gentleman.... he's visited over 60 countries. His friend Peggy, a former director of the Smithsonian Museum was there on business. Between both of them, they visited over 100 countries. What an experience to visit local markets, restaurants and cigar shops. "Thanks" Rex for your hospitality!

It was such a thrill to meet so many interesting folks. One of our trips was to an incubator.... it was awesome to meet some entrepreneurs that had patten ed their business and were in the process of globalizing their business.

Our first presentation was to INFOTEP. There were over 150 people in attendance...tv and newspapers were covering the story. INFOTEP was celebrating their anniversary.

When we first arrived to Santo Domingo, we visited El Conuco Restaurant. The atmosphere was beautiful, loved all the lively colors and decor. The food was awesome, entertainment splendid and here I am ready to dig into the bananas out side of the restaurant.

We arrived in Miami at 6am... while we waited we had the pleasure of meeting Emilio Estefan,....that's right... the husband of the beautiful and talented Gloria Estefan.

Halloween at Disney!

Happy Halloween!...

What a TREAT for our entire family this year at Disney!

I can't believe how much fun we had...... the experience brought out the big kid inside of me... "I really think I had more fun than my children!....."

It was the best Halloweenee ever!...... There were plenty of candy stations for children and adults through out the park. It was cool to see some adults and grandparents enjoying the Halloween Spirit by caring around their Trick or Treat Bags....not everyone had children. Plenty of craft projects to keep all the little goblins happy.

Ah yes.... and seeing so many Disney characters running around with their little outfit's and not having to wait so long for some groovy pictures. As we strolled through out the park we kept seeing so much excitement with all the opportunities of dancing with all the Disney character's such as Buzz Light, Monster Inc's ....

Did I mention.... the rides....we just breezed through from one ride to another.

As we waited for the parade to come around.... the music took control and had little and big feet dancing a storm. Wow... I truly enjoyed it so much... I did not want to go home!

I know that in the future our Halloween spirit was so exhilarating, that it will become our family tradition.

My Mind Movie

A few weeks ago, I was introduced to My Mind Movies through a friend on My Space. She followed up with an email promoting her second mind movie. After seeing her second video, I was inspired to create my own video. My undergraduate degree was in communications, so I had fun putting it together. It took me 4 day's ..... the music selection took about 6 hours. I started working on it on Friday night.... I worked until 6am on Saturday morning. I do not know where the drive came but I was so full of energy in seeing this project complete. Selecting the images that were in line with my message was so time consuming. What took the longest was creating special effects...each frame...finally it was completed!...Yes!...

Although I have been blessed with so much, the journey has been full of dark times. When I saw this angel on my left, it reminded me of how I felt during my journey.

Many times, my spirit was torn and shattered leaving me feeling helpless and weak. But some how, there was always lights of hope that were always directed to me. Prayer and patience were key in taking one step at a time. Having a wonderful supportive family and friends that can listen and hear your agony and comfort you is so priceless.

Dare to Dream!

Before learning about the Law of Attraction from the Oprah Winfrey show, I practised all the principles through out my life. Consequently, the many blessings followed which made me feel like I was on cloud nine the months of April-July! What a beautiful rush to experience after many, many years of taking an active role in the business community.

Wow.... I was truly touched in meeting and receiving my award by Jovita Carranza. Jovita was appointed by President George W. Bush as a high level position for the U.S. SBA (Small Business Administration).

As I went to receive my award, Jovita told me that she was touched by my story and she was inspired by me!.... Imagine that!... During the presentation, I took my children. Jovita was taken by their presence and commented on how important it is for our children in taking part of meaningful events during her presentation to the private reception prior to the awards ceremony . For they will be the future leaders of our great country!...

Jovita was also taken by my beautiful designs that I created during a two day celebration. Here I am with the heart warming IWE (Institute of Women Entrepreneurs).

Dreams can be accomplished with the support and vision of a loving family. All the blessings, made me realize how much I love my husband and children!

CSBA Awardee-Van Tran

On May 2nd , I was honored as Small Business Honoree for
Assembly District # 68 by Assembly Member Van Tran for the 2007 California Small Business Day http://www.csba.com/home/ in Sacramento. What a delightful experience!

The California Assembly passed a resolution in 2000 to honor small business. This is an all day event with over 200 people meet with the legislative leadership and business honorees. Over 70 legislators attended !.. Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger was our keynote speaker.

On Tuesday, May 1st I was invited by one of my good friends from the Sacramento, Hispanic Chamber to attend the Legislative Reception at the State Capital.

Several Board members were recognized during the reception. The lady in the pink, Nancy Zarenda was invited to have dinner with President Bush during a Cinco De Mayo Event.

Estrella Awards

Each year the O.C. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce celebrates the Estrella/Star awards in April. www.hcoc.org . The above picture are very dear friends of mine. Each has played a major role in my business. Janet Cronick, (NLBWA Past President and Ultimate Gifts CEO www.ugpromo.com, Joel Ayala (CA Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President/CEO and former CEO of OC Chamber) , Sylvia Gutierrez-Business Development Specialist from the SBA Office and Sallie Salinas from IWE (Institute of Women) Entrepreneurs www.iweoc.org .

In 2004 while serving as the Ambassador Chair, I told myself that I would be the Small Business of the year next year. During the summer, I practised my acceptance speech. In 2005, I was honored as the Small Business of the Year after being in business 15 months! I strategically aligned myself with the chamber that has ties with both state and national level. My leadership, creativity and using my technology to assist the chamber played a major role.

To the left, are two very special people whom work for the chamber, Diana Oranlez and Viola Myre. They have always been so supportive as friends and as clients.

Like Mother like Son

Here's my little guy receiving his first award !...

His pre-school had a wheel- a-thon fundraiser. It was the cutest thing...seeing these little children from the ages of 4 to 5 riding their bikes round, round and a round their school. So much energy, delight and fun as the little bicycles sped off.

As parents, we sometimes repeat ourselves so many times and wonder if our children really are listening. A week prior to the race, my son told my daughter... "Don't you know, I have to practise so I can receive my award!"

I now think that my children recognize that everything takes time, effort and lot's of devotion. The most important lesson is to have fun in the process.

Both my children take after me and my husband. My husband has received numerous recognition from his employer. Although, he's not one to tell anyone. As the mother, I think it's important to teach our children what the outcome results when we focus and do not give up.

It's never to late to DREAM and enjoy the journey!....

Like Mother like Daugther

My sweet little girl that loves playing teacher every day received her first award!... She was recognized as Outstanding Citizen. I was going to cheer for her but my eyes became watery with happiness.

My little princess joined me when I received the Ahora Award in 2006. She too was so proud of her momma. I explained to her, that in order to receive awards it takes much work, determination and focus. Nothing happens if we do not take the first step.

My little 5 year old is ready to work hard for his award. His little pre-school is having a Wheel-a-thon. He has been pracitising for some time. While we were at the park, my little boy said "Don't you know.... I'm practing really hard so I can recieve my award". My parents both raised us to work hard, they did an excellent job now I'm carring on the tradition.

National Hispanic Women's Conference

It was time again for the MAOF 31st Annual National Hispanic Women's Conference on April 27 at the Pasadena Convention. The key note speaker was . Lic. Margarita Zavala, First Lady of Mexico. More than 5000 women attended! http://www.maof.org/.

I along with Sallie Salinas, the Director of the Institute for Women Entrepreneurs presented a workshop. "Women and Business...Latina's Leading the way!

Our workshop discussed current employment opportunities and the growing trend of Latina's blazing the trial as business owners. www.ociwe.org .

While we were setting up, one of my friends Sylvia Mendoza an author and writer for Siempre Mujer Magazine expressed an interest in writing about our center.

Las Comadres

Las Comadres Para Las Americas is an informal Internet-based group that meets monthly in many US cities to build connections and community with other Latinas. Since April of 2000 we have been building relationships, doing business together, helping each other find jobs, sharing news and introducing comadres and learning about/celebrating our Latinidad. We are creating "legacy" programs to provide educational opportunities that lay the foundation of wealth, health and making our voices heard. Come and join over 7,000 Latinas who connect with their comadres every day. Check out their website at www.lascomadres.org .

This is one of my favorite groups. Dr. Nora Comstock is the founder of this wonderful group. Las Comadres is different from other groups I belong to. There are no membership fees, women meet once a month and have an opportunity and fosters friendships by having some down to earth activities that are fun and lively. I've had the opportunity of meeting so many talented women from Dr., lawyers, writers, editors, artists, designers through out the country.

To the right, you see Dora Olivo, Texas Representative (light blue jacket) for our opening World Wide Comadrazo opening with a legislative breakfast held in Austin, Texas on April 20th, 2007. Dora made such a beautiful presentation ...it made me rethink of running for political office in the future.

There were so many educational workshops that were very innovative and creative. We also had a fun talent show with a variety of activities. Here we have the Mamacita Awards...one of the ladies read a beautiful piece of poetry that she had written. As she read it, many women wear touched with her message which brought tears to many.

I had the opportunity to meet Corazon Tierra, Editor from Siempre Mujer Magazine based out of New York. They were one of the sponsors along with DOVE. Corazon saw some of my dazzling book marks that she would like to feature in the future!

Here we have our Orange County Comadre, Dr. Ana Nogales....having a blast in our Sexy Shoe Contest.

What makes Las Comadres so special is that allows women to meet through out the country and formulate lasting friendships. We have fun, enjoy each others company but we help one another. As we assist one another, we grow stronger together and we will succeed!..

Wow.... we're in one of the Hottest magazines in Southern CA.... "Tu Ciudad" Magazine April Issue. This issue has "The Best of Orange County (Latino - Style); we are featured on page 57.

When I first saw the first issue in 2006.... I was extremely impressed with the magazine.. the look, stories, quality and elegance of this magazine. I read the entire magazine from start to finish.... this is not a norm for me. This magazine was worth reading over and over.

Tu Ciudad had a special gathering in OC at Taleo's Resturant in Irvine, CA.

It was so good to see two of my favorite writers . To the left is Mary Castillo, a very talented author http://www.marycastillo.com/ and Yvette Cabrera, a columnist for the OC Register. Yvette was featured on the Oprah Show this year. What a beautiful interview that depicted the beauty of our rich Latino Heritage and culture. We are so proud of you Yvette!...

I also had a chance to see Ruben Alvarez, Founder of Stay Connected and Marcial. Ruben is the creative mind of Latino OC 100.

Wow... just went my little heart is dealing with all the excitement more excitement comes my way. "Latina Style Magazine - A National Magazine for the Contemporary Hispanic Woman" http://www.latinastyle.com/ will be featuring me in an upcoming issue. I've meet several of the staff members and Robert E. Bard the Publisher at the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Convention and the California Hispanic State Convention.

The founder of Latina Style Magazine was Anna Maria Arias a Trailblazer. This magazine has taken a leadership role in Empowering Latina Entrepreneurs. Since 1998, this magazine has had the Latina Style Business Series nation wide. They also have the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund where they select Latina Entrepreneurs and award them with funds for their business.

We all are captains in our ships, we control our destiny and create our paths with a vision, passion and with a dream. I call it Entrepreneurship.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter!

This year was filled with so many non- stop fun activities for our family. It seemed like we finally had a chance to just enjoy our Easter. From Easter Hunting at my son's pre-school, a birthday party, goodies from family/friends and our own Easter Hunting. Wow... our candy supply is an overflow.

My little ones enjoyed their Easter baskets. I love to create their own basket by giving them things they will enjoy and use. My little guy just loves playing with water guns...anything that has water; so they both had their bubble makers plus a little bug collector container. My little girl is a little princess but she also loves bugs. They did not waste time finding little bugs and creating a home for them. They also enjoyed painting their Easter egg's.

Institute Women Entrepreneurs

This past quarter was extremely challenging for Heaven Sent Jewelry. Now I see the blessing in disguise. For many business owners,dealing with crossroads is difficult as they grow their business. Some times other opportunities develop and compliment our business. I 'm so excited in joining the newly formed Institute of Women Entrepreneurs (IWE) http://www.ociwe.org/ in Santa Ana, CA as a business advisor in addition to managing my business. The mission of IWE is to tailor a program to the unique needs of women.

Sallie Salinas is the IWE Director. I was so impressed with her vision, energy and the direction. Our meeting was so inspiring...Sallie had her own home-based business for 15 years plus cared for her son. She offered so much insight and willingness to assist me in taking my business to the next level. We shared our success stories as well as blunders.... it was so refreshing!... After our joyous meeting, I told her I could see IWE being a national model. (above you will see a picture of Sallie and myself).

Over the years, I have assisted other business owners by sharing my experience with my strategic planning marketing Heaven Sent Jewelry on a national level.

Statistics say that 80 percent of business will fail during the first year in business. After operating 4 years, I can understand why the stats are so high. Faith and praying are my nightly rituals. I was given the strength to demonstrate that a home-based business stay at home mother can dream .

I literally started with very little capital and time. I fought hard in order to survive, I branded my business, received numerous awards and recieved media coverage. Although people always see me with a smile , there were numerous times I thought of closing the doors. For some reason, I always received blessings that confirmed my path to move forward. Now, I will be able to offer my business experience on a one on one as a business advisor. No one can understand how exhausting entrepreneurship is until they experience it.

Although I have a masters degree, I never felt inadequate in asking for help. Everyone is human, it's impossible to excel in everything. I'm glad I took advantage of receiving free counseling from centers such as Institute of Women Entrepreneurs, SCORE, http://www.score.org/SBA http://www.sba.gov/.... These center's have been a tremendous service to my business.

My dream .... my family....my business...my Hopes. I've never stopped believing in myself or my dream. Even during the darkest hours, I would still tell myself "This year is going to be a GRAND YEAR as tears rolled down my cheeks". Attitude is everything.

My mom is so positive...I'm so blessed that she influenced my life with so much warmth and love. She showed me how to make life joyous by playing and having fun. Both my parents showed us a strong work ethic. When you work hard it's amazing what can result from it!....

I'm still in aw about being selected as the "SBA District and Region IX Home-Based Business Champion".... and what blows my mind is that I'm in contention for national honors!............. All of this was because "I Dared to Dream"

As a child, I dreamed. I dreamed of having an office job, a house, a car ... I dreamed of living in a big city and having a better life for my children. I'm so proud that my father exposed me in getting involved with groups at a young age. The influence of Cesar Chavez from the UFW (United Farm Workers) "Si Se Puede" " Yes you can" had an impact on this entrepreneur.

SBA Champion

OH MY !..... I heard a phone message from SBA District Director, J. Adlaberto Quijada. My eye's were wide open, tears from joy fell upon my cheeks and a smile that was covering my entire face. I jumped up ,picked up my little boy and danced with him. Upon feeling like I was flying, I called Adalberto and "Thanked him from the bottom of my heart"!

Each year the SBA recognizes business owners nationally. The U.S. Small Business Administration will celebrate it's 44th Annual National Small Business Week this May entitled "Business..Dream Big" . http://www.sba.gov/ While I attended my first SBA luncheon last year one of my friends, Janet Cronick, former NLBWA President suggested I apply. When November rolled around, I had a tough choice between completing all the documentation or my business. The process took about two weeks to complete. During this time I realized I had devoted many, many years in assisting business owners from Fresno, Bakersfield and Orange County, CA .

The O.C. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce http://hcoc.org/ nominated me . I was selected as the District and and Region IX 2007 SBA Home Based-Champion. I competed with people from California, Arizona, Hawaii and Nevada!

I'm so happy that I never stopped dreaming endlessly. My dream took 3 1/2 years of non-stop devotion, dedication and sacrifice. Countless weekends from my family, late nights, lack of sleep and broken dreams. Yet it has been the most rewarding experience. I've met incredible people that have opened doors. In return, I'm committed to helping others. We can not grow if we do not mentor, coach or assist one another. My philosophy is "Win-Win".... things happen when you do things for the right reasons. Dark Times-Secret

For the past two months, there have been so many hurdles to deal with. It's the old saying "When it rains it pours". This was the first time I needed to take a sabbatical from my business and deal with the situations. My family was also in the dark for a couple of weeks, not knowing if we were going to be moving to another state. I'm glad February ended with some resolutions.

The idea of moving really forced me to think differently about my business and my families future. I took time to breath, think about life and clear my mind. This thought process and ability to talk to close friends opened many doors and avenues for my business. During the unknown time, I went the the newly formed Institute of Women Entrepreneurs for guidance in Santa Ana, CA . It's always good to get advice in the evaluation process, make enhancements and exploring new territory. Now I'm jazzed and ready for changes that will take me to my destination . During my time off, I had a chance to see "The Secret" on Oprah Winfrey show. I had two close friends whom had emailed me information about an upcoming show. http://www.thesecret.tv./ The "Law of Attraction" "A New Era for Humankind ". Secret is released to the world! This ground-breaking feature length movie presentation reveals The Great Secret of the universe. It has been passed throughout the ages, traveling through centuries... to reach you and humankind. A group I belong to http://www.phenomenalwomen.tv.com/ , Tanya Hutchison, founder of the group had Lisa Nicols, a teacher from the secret as a presenter.

After the show, I realize that I had been practicing many elements that had been discussed. During the past 4 years, I've prayed daily, asked for the strength, guidance and patience for my mission. Through this path I realized that my mission is not about me having my business but to assist/serve others with their dreams; I'm committed to my community. and grateful for people whom have assisted me along the way. Through the path, I visualized many things, reaffirmed my dreams and goals on a daily basis. As a result, "Heaven Sent" has receive an abundance of blessings with much dedication.

When I embraced our move to the East Coast, things started to change. I took action in caring for myself a priority. In the past, working out was my second nature, now is back into my life. I'm finally started Yoga, Pilate's and using my weights.

Entrepreneurship Truth

Entrepreneurs (network marketers) are not paid on an hourly basis for their productivity. They are paid for their VISION, COURAGE, and STAMINA. They are paid for willing to do what others would not do. They are paid for staring down fear, ignoring fatigue, fighting loneliness, pushing through discouragement, and walking by faith. A dear friend of mine forwarded this email to me. Wow ....when I read it, it brought tears to my eyes. This little paragraph says it all about business owners. According some studies, business owners do not make a profit until the 5 year in business.

Never did I understand just how brutal the experience would be as a business owner. I never thought I would own my own business. Saving my family ties is the reason I choose to fight for this dream. I recall watching Cinderalla Man. Wow... was I inspired by this movie. Russel Crow , one of my favorite actors, did an awesome job portraying an incredible boxer that endured so much pain for the love of his family. His love and faith changed his path towards a life of hope. You have to see it.

The past few months have become somewhat lonely. Some of my business buddies took other roads. There have been so many wonderful people whom have entered my path through this 4 year journey. Each one has contributed in more ways than one. I call them my "little angels " that have sprinkled my life with rainbows. I know this year will bring more interesting people that will become part of my journey towards the rainbow of HOPE.

2006 High Lights

Each year I begin a new year with positive affirmations. 2006 was filled with so many blessings, I was blown away with everything that came my way.

"2007 will be a GRAND Year"!!!!!!!!..

Unexpected recognition such as AIMSA Ahora/Today Award, NLBWA-OC Emerging Latina of the Year, Manchester Who's Who Among Executives and Professionals, Latino O.C. 100 and O.C. Business Journal Women in Business Nominee. I was also blessed in having various interviews with the media, pod cast interview and a contributor to a book.

Life is so fast to think about everything that is happening. Taking care of your family, being mommy, wife, business owner and taking part of your children's education is a lot. I believe as women we learn how to multi-task in order to deal with the daily demands.

2006 was an awakening experience. After 3 1/2 years of living a very demanding schedule integrating both family & business, I realized that my life was changing and I could not continue to work as I had in the past. My little 4 year old is enrolled in a COOP pre-school. This type of school promotes parent involvement with a committe, working in school and assisting with fundraisers. My baby sitter raised her prices so I really was forced to think twice . My networking activities had to slow down, focus on my business foundation and change things in order keep my family first.

While I attended a conference, I recall hearing a speaker discuss how little sleep and time she was spending with her family. She new she was neglecting her family. In addition, I read or heard something about the how the lack of sleep can affect your health. As a result this made me think about my situation. I'm now getting more sleep, eating healthier, reserved time for my family with no interruption and I feel better about my self. Everyone in my family is happier. Consequently, my stress management has become easier. I do not sweat the small things in life.

It's nice seeing that my two little ones can communicate their concerns like mommy and daddy by expressing themselves. When my little 4 year old is upset he tells me.... "Mommy I'm upset because......." We sit down and we talk about it. This helps him understand his actions and consequences , then he says sorry . We hug each other and then he's off playing with his sister.

Merry Christmas!

I can't believe it's been 4 years since Heaven Sent Jewelry became a reality. Boy ,have I learned a great deal about life since I started this journey.

All I can say is "Thank You" for all my clients, supporters, fellow entreprenuers and family. There have been many wonderful highlights during this year. So much I would love to share but finding the time to write about everything is the biggest challenge.

All I can say is faith, a positive attitude and passion are so essential in any endeavor in life. Nothing happens if we do not have the confidence and vision to pursue in what we believe. A person is only as strong as their family. I'm blessed in having such a wonderful supportive husband that always shows his unconditional love. Two little loving children that are full of love and embrace life with so much energy.

I recently came across this beautiful quote from Mother Teresa " We cannot do great things on this earth, only small things with great Love".

Happy Halloween!.....

This has been one of the best Halloweens since I started my business!... What can I say.... I'm a kid at heart. Life is too short and you need to enjoy life by being silly, laughing and creating memories for your entire family. Medical studies show that laughing is good for your health!

What I found amusing this year, for the first time in my life I had to create a costume that would not be scary. So I though I would be a cute red head Hilly Billy with big glasses and big teeth. While we visited my little girl's parade, my little girl asked my husband why I had dressed scary. Then we went to my son's pre-school and took part in their school carnival. My son's teacher said she was taken by surprise by my outfit.... she thought it gross.... I sure love Halloween!... It's time for creativity, fun, fun, fun...

Much time was spent preparing for a Birthday party, working on projects with my children in preparation for Halloween. I created a little mini me for my little girl and my little boy. I used old nylons, stuffed them with batting, used clothes hangers that gave the bodies support and my children's old clothes . We had so many compliments from our Treak or Treaters this year about our Halloween Props. We also had back ground music with scary Halloween music.

Hope all of you had a blast this year!... Next year I'm creating a mini - Me of myself and my hubby. I better stop enjoying all the sweet stuff before I keep growing... Yikes.................

International Women's Conference

I had an opportunity of attending MIPEC www.mipekenterprises.com "First women in Business from Latin America Forum on October, 26th & 27th. This was such an awesome experience, meeting so many ladies from El Salvador, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Argentina....... Everyone had a chance to listen to so many great speakers, enjoy the beautiful cultures, entertainment and nice trip to Newport Beach. We cruised on the Icon....what a nice pleasant time filled with so much laughter, lively spirit and fun .

MIPEC Mission :
To utilize market research based on the current market conditions of the Hispanic Consumer in the United Status in order to highlight buying patterns, re-engineer commercial processes, recommend product redesign, and customer service that will facilitate Hispanic market penetration.

The ladies behind MIPEK are Patricia Mariscal, President, Irene Martinez and Carolina Flores. These ladies have a commitment to the community, using their talents in order to bring women together in promoting trade between other countries. This was my first event in learning more about import/export. So much to learn but I'm interested in finding out more so I can expand my jewelry line.

This has to be one of the most interesting conferences. (So much occurred with little time to write about it). We had an opportunity of hearing from Myriam Sanchez, (Ecuador) Representing Mundo Andino CISA Y CONMIE. She began our opening and closing of the conference. Her presences was felt in more was than one... I felt rejuvenated and the cleansing of my inner spirit.

We also had my good friend Dr. Ana Nogales , www.ananogales.com a clinical psychologist, author, nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, and media personality with a message of empowering for you!Her book, Latina Power! 7 Strengths You Already Have to Create the Success You Deserve, takes readers on a journey of self discovery to learn about inner strengths and how to build on them.

When I began my journey as an entrepreneur, at times I felt like I did not have the energy to push through all the hardships. I read Ana's book and found it very inspiring to follow my path . I really recommend this book .

International Surprise

Wow.... Another wonderful event!....

In September I received notice from Mirian informing me that I was selected an awardee from AIMSA Ahora Awards www.aimsausa.com . This was the 11th anniversary for Asociacion Internacional De Mujeres Salvadoran (International Association of Salvadoran Women). This award is give to women with great leadership and major contributions to our community that make a difference in the lives of young women. Kaily Coronado, Mabel Katz and Juantia Vigil were also recognized.

I was so happy that my little girl could finally attend an event with me. She was so excited to dress up in her little evening gown and wear her swarovski bracelet and sparkle with mommy. My business is a family business and I wanted to share this special occasion with my little girl. My girlfriend Diana Hernandez, also joined the celebration. She mentioned that my little girl almost started crying because she was touched that mommy was being recognized. I try to share my experience so she can excel and enjoy school. Unfortunately my little guy was just getting over being sick so he couldn't attend with my husband.

Besides having a wonderful time with many nice folks. Mirian , the organizer and founder of AIMS, she also started a toy drive for Salvadoran Children. We donated two teddy bears that had two little Austrian Swarvovski bracelets for two lucky little girls. All the little girls that have received these little treaures love their bracelets.
